Location of Occurrence:     McCarran Airport

Comments:
I waited under the # parking sign that I was told to by the Airport Traffic staff. A cab pulled up, saw me (one person only), and backed up to take the couple behind me. A traffic officer blew his whistle and told him to move forward and take me in proper order. He asked me how I wanted to get to the Paris Hotel. I responded “the quickest way.” I don’t know what other response there could possibly be. He said not one word to me after that. And took me the long way thru the tunnel costing me $22.00 plus a tip. He had his photo ID covered by a “thank you for not smoking” sign. Aren’t they supposed to have that uncovered? That alarmed me. When we got to the hotel he took out my bag, left it on the ground and left w/0 a word. The cab was a Star and the # was 2010. He appeared to be a white male with an Eastern European accent when he spoke that one time. Next time I will refuse to get in a cab with someone who did not want to take only one person. And especially if he has his name covered up.

Virgin Valley Cab Company Driver Permit No: 7048 Description: Black Male, middle age, foreign accent. Name beginning with J. We are currently enjoying our first vaccation in Las Vegas and after a night in Freemont St we approached a taxi line where we came across the above cab driver in question where we asked him to take us to Desert Inn Road, West. He looked at us very blankly and said “Desert Road?” We replied “No, Desert Inn Road, West D.I” to which he said “OK, get in” We got into the cab and asked him if he needed our address, he said “No” and we said “are you sure? It is Desert Inn Road, yes?” he said “Yes”. As we are visitors to Las Vegas and had only just spent our third night in the City and with little knowledge of the area, we trusted the cab driver after he assured us he knew where he was going. As the fair was exceeding the usual amount we have paid and we had yet to recognise anywhere near our house we again questioned the driver and only now after he had took us away from our intended destination did he comprehend that we wanted “Desert Inn Road” and not Desert Road. He then began to raise his voice and say “why didnt you tell me where you wanted to go? Why did you not give me your address?” Finally, he took us to our intended destination and the fare had now gone nearly double what it would usually take to get home. Not only did he ask us for the full fare, he decided to voluntarily take his own tip out of our change, over $4. As foreign visitors to your country, we are under the impression we are not obliged to tip if we feel the service was unsatisfactory, which in this case it most certainly was. When we told the driver that he had not given us all our correct change he tried to tell us that the money he had taken was for “tax”. When we said that we knew this was not the case he refused to give us our money and told us to “ring the police then”. Sensing that this rude and akward driver was not going to give us our money we took down his number and told him we would be making a complaint. We feel very let down that we have been treated in such a way on our first time in Las Vegas and will think twice about using the service again. We hope some action will be taken to prevent this from happening again to other trusting holiday makers.

He smiled a lot, called me “princess”!

The cab number was 2724; the driver’s permit number was 025423. The driver’s name was foreign. I could not make it out (something like Dessoen Tequewada?) but the initials were D. T. Somewhere on his permit (it appeared to be part of his address) was Lucky Las Vegas. The cab had sliding passenger doors, & the small 24/7 pamphlets were tucked into the back for passengers to take. The hotel bellman got my husband & me the cab at the Wynn taxi pick-up point. He was directed to take us to the airport. The driver was a black man, most probably foreign-born, who spoke fairly good English with an accent. He smiled a lot, called me “princess”, and spoke in a foreign language to another (apparently new) cabdriver who asked for directions just before we left the Wynn property. After a short time, I questiond whether we were going to the airport. Yes, yes, to the airport, he replied. I became more apprehensive as we passed the Luxor, then Mandalay Bay. A little later, we were going through the TUNNEL, of which I had heard. The fare was $27.50 for the ride from Wynn to the airport! This is far more than we had ever paid in our prior visits to Las Vegas.
