We asked him why it was so much, and still could not get an answer.
Date of Occurrence: 02-05-08
Time of Occurrence: approx. 8 a.m.
Location of Occurrence: Las Vegas Hilton/McCarron Airport
Comments:
Two colleagues and myself needed a cab to get to McCarran Airport for our 11:33 a.m., Feb. 5 flight back to Atlanta. We had been staying at the Las Vegas Hilton for five days while attending the SHOT Show at the Convention Center. The bellhop at the Las Vegas Hilton hailed a cab. I remember the driver’s name was Jin Huang. The company was Nellis. I sat in the front seat. D and K sat in the back. Jin asked me where we were going. I said, “The airport.” He started to pull away and asked if we wanted to take the freeway. I said, “I don’t know. Do you recommended that way?” He said, “Do you want to go the fastest way?” I said “yes” but was a little confused. I said I wanted to go “the best way to the airport.” He said OK, and proceeded to get on the interstate at what seemed like the north or northeast end of town. We entered the airport through a tunnel. The trip took about 30 minutes, and my colleagues in the back mentioned how this trip was taking us much longer than the trip from the airport to the hotel five days earlier. The traffic did not seem very heavy this day. We asked the driver about this, and he mumbled but was not answering our questions. Turns out the trip was more than 30 minutes, to the best of recollection, and the fare was more than $32.50. We asked him why it was so much, and still could not get an answer. He seemed to say that he couldn’t speak English well, or at least acted that way, said Dobie, who paid the bill and tried to talk to Jin afterward. In the airport, I asked a woman at an information booth if a 30-minute, $32.50 cab from the Hilton was about right. She said, “No,” and gave me a NTA pamphlet. She asked if I wanted to make a complain right then. She also said I could do it on the Web when I got home. I thanked her and now I am back in Georgia writing the events of that day. end

showing his mid finger, threathening to KILL THEM all
Date of Occurrence: 3/30/08
Time of Occurrence: 5pm
Location of Occurrence: airport
Comments:
Taxi driver with first name “Tekeste” and lic number 3560 took me and 2 of my colleagues from the airport to Bellagio. His behavious was just downright outrageus the whole way. He was shouting at other drivers all the time, showing his mid finger, threathening to KILL THEM all throught the journey. He was just continously saying, “I will kill you, I will kill you….”. I tried to make some friendly comment “small talk” to him but he just shouted that I can not ask him anything. He was really scary, and we thought he is either mentally ill or on drugs. We were scared and hope that he does not continue as a taxi driver.

Rouge company that should not be allowed to prey on tourists
Date of Occurrence: 4/9/08
Time of Occurrence: 1:00 AM
Location of Occurrence: McCarren Airport
Comments:
I entered the Henderson taxi #5823 or #5873 (my note is hard to read) at the airport on 4/9/08 at about 1:00 AM and told the driver to take me to the Gold Coast. When the cab entered the tunnel I told the driver that I thought that cabs could only take the tunnel with permission from the passenger. The driver insisted that this was the correct route. The fare was $21.85 (no tip). The driver insisted that he did nothing wrong and suggested that I call the company for verification. About 2:00 AM I called the cab company at 702-384-2322. The dispatcher (a woman) told me that the driver took the correct route. She said that if the driver had not taken the tunnel the fare would have been about $25. That night I took a Nellis cab back to the airport from the Gold Coast. The fare was $14.10. This was not just a rouge driver. The driver being backed up by the company demonstrates a rouge company that should not be allowed to prey on tourists. I was aware of the tunnel ploy. It was dark and I was in the tunnel before I knew it. The cost of turning around would possibly been more than continuing.

Still no word from The Desert Cab Company
Date of Occurrence: 3-16-08
Time of Occurrence: 11:00-11:25
Location of Occurrence: Rio Hotel to Airport
Comments:
We were picked up by the Desert Cab Company by Driver Number 4318, bigger guy with dark brown hair, at The Rio Hotel at 11:00 he took us clear around the city on the freeway and then through the tunnel, finally to the airport departures around 11:25. The total fare was $24.50 and that is after I had him drop us off before our actual entrance to Allegiant Airlines door. I told him that I have never paid $25.00 for a cab ride in Vegas and he told me that was beacause I stayed at the Rio which is an “off the strip hotel” I told him it cost about $13.00 to get there and he said “he’d really like to see how that was done, they must have screwed with the fare.” He never got out of the cab and we got our own luggage out of the taxi. I immediately contacted the cab company and spoke to Misty. I reported the incident, she said she would check his books and call me on March 17th in the morning, she has yet to do so and I tried her again on the 17th to no avail. Still no word from The Desert Cab Company. Again, Driver number 4318.
