Virgin Valley Cab Co. Cab# 7008 Driver – Fair/Red Hair After unnecessarily speedy and “rushed” but otherwise eventless cab ride (zero discussion w/driver) from the Wynn to the airport, we arrive (2 passengers, myself and female friend, w/2 carry-on size bags total), the fare is $13.50. I hand the driver $15.00 and he snaps at me – “1.50!!!”. “Huh”, I responded, not understing what he meant as I was sleep deprived, and he responded nastily “you’re giving me a $1.50 tip?!!!” I responded by going into my wallet and handing him another dollar (which upon reflection may have been more appropriate as a tip under normal circumstances, although he deserved $0 tip based on these events). He responded by physically getting in my face and yelling at me “Are you f___ing kidding me, I drove you here quickly, I drove you here safely, I did my job, that’s what you’re f___ing giving me” in an obvious attempt to intimidate more tip out of me. Although I was not going to give him a dime more based on his mean and nasty attitude, I backed up and asked him calmly “Well, what is customary?” and he replied “To the airport, $20.00″ to which I responded that I’m sorry and walked away. The driver began to follow me yelling and calling us “Shuttle trash” and other expletives in attempt to further engage me into either physical or verbal altercation. Notwithstanding, I simply continued to walke away and did not engage him. He finally turned around, got in his cab , and tailed us while yelling out his window til we finally entered the terminal building. This man should not be driving a cab and certainly is not an ambassador to your city. He should be fined and his permit should revoked or suspended. My guess is this is not the first complaint against him. He is a menace preying on tourists and based on his losing it seems to be a potential threat for physical violence. Everyone in the area was watching the incident. All of our taxi drivers were beyond fantastic all weekend. I have never gone out of my way to file a complaint like this in my life, but this incident was so extreme. Please feel free to contact me if you require further information. The other passenger may be filing separate complaint with her own account of the incident. Please advise as to what action, including whether or not if any, will be taken regarding this matter. Thank you for your attention, Tourist I

The driver appeared very irate and drove extremely fast.

Date of Occurrence:    February 2, 2008

Time of Occurrence:    1am

Location of Occurrence:     McCarron Airport

In the early morning (1am) of Saturday February 2nd, my wife and I took a taxi (#627, licence number 525 UBN)to the Flamingo Hotel. As soon as we went through a tunnel, I told the driver that this wasn’t the way and I wanted to go directly to the hotel and not on the highway (‘Long Hauling’). His response was that I obviously was not familiar with Vegas that this was the quickest route especially due to the heavy traffic. My response was that I was familiar with Vegas being a regular visitor and that evening I had been to the airport three times due to my wifes flight being delayed. On all previous occasions the trip was quick and the fare was never higher than $14.00. The driver appeared very irate and drove extremely fast. I felt intimidated and didn’t want to get into an argument as I was left with the feeling that if I did he would abandon us miles from our destination. The fare was $24.00. On my departure back to the airport a few days later I asked the driver (obviously a different taxi) “Please, no long hauling”. He got upset and angry that I had implied he would exploit me. When I told him of my experience, he suggested that in future, I only pay what I thought the fare should be and if there was any dispute, to call the Taxi Authority. Frankly, I don’t think anyone wants to get into a hostile situation in front of a hotel so I think they just pay the fare and try and forget it. Now that I’m back in Canada, I have heard of a number of similar situations relating to taxis in Vegas and that it is better to take the shuttle to avoid being ripped off. It is sad to think that all legitimate Las Vegas taxi drivers are being labelled no differently than the bad apples. That’s unfortunate because of this type of situation especially when often the best ambassador a city can have are their taxi drivers.

The driver took an extended route to increase the fare!

Arrived in your city to take a taxi to our hotel. The driver took an extended route to increase the fare. I did not specify a route as I am not overly familiar with the city but was aware that the fare should be 15 or 16 dollars. The driver took paradise road south, to the 215 freeway to the 15 freeway north to take us to Flamingo then north on Las Vegas blvd to our destination. The meter read 23.70 when we reached our destination and when I questioned the driver about his route, his excuse was there was construction and traffic on Tropicana Avenue. The driver held my baggage hostage until I paid him 23.00. I then informed him I was going to register a complaint with the taxi authority. I forget the driver’s name, he was a Hispanic man, his Driver # is 023371, was driving a Jeep Sport utility, the receipt was from Vegas-western cab/AN.LVcab Virgin valley cab, abc union cab, ace cab company This man is a terrible ambassador to your city, and I’m sure that he has committed this fraud on unknowing tourists many times. Please fine or discipline him for his actions. Thank you
