Desert cab refused to radio the cabs and ask
Date of Occurrence: 2-16-08
Time of Occurrence: around midnight
Location of Occurrence: Summer Bay Resorts
Comments:
Desert Cab Car # 4489 Complaint #1 The Driver asked me if I was willing to pay a couple of dollars more to go the expressway from the airport to Summer Bay Resorts. (Summer Bay is located behind the Imperial) I said Yes. It turned out to be about $12.00 more. I paid about 27.00 before tax and tip and on the way back to the airport it was 12.90 total. Complaint #2 The driver took 3 pieces of luggage. Suitcase, overnight bag and laptop bag and put in the trunk. When we got to the location, I stayed in the back seat to use the credit card machine and the driver went to the trunk to get the luggage for my wife. He gave her the suitcase and overnight bag but not the laptop case. When I got out of the car, the trunk was closed and the driver was back to me. He said the credit card receipt printer was not working so he gave me a Desert Cab blank slip and I wrote the amount in. He indicated he had given the luggage to my wife, I took the slip and he drove off. I checked in and when we got to the room I asked where the laptop case was and she did not have it. She thought I had it. I called Desert Cab to report, within 60 minutes of arrival, that the laptop case was still in the cab. Because the printer was not working in the cab, I did not have the cab number or drivers name. I explained that I had paid with a credit card but they said they would not be able to see records until Monday. I asked that they radio the cabs to see who had dropped me off at the Summer Bay Resorts. I indicated that most cabs were dropping off at hotels and it might be easier for a driver to remember that location. Desert cab refused to radio the cabs and ask. I was told to wait and check the next day with lost and found. When I called Desert Cab on Sunday, they explained that lost and found was closed on Sunday and to call back Monday. I called Monday and it was not turned in. They did track down my credit card to the cab driver but he was off on Monday. They told me they called for him on Monday but he did not respond. On Tuesday the 19th, Jesse at Desert Cab talked to the driver but he indicated that he did not remember a laptop case. I believe there was a good possibility of recovering the laptop if the following had happened: 1. Desert Cab radio the cabs immediately after the report 2. Desert Cab track down the driver before Tuesday the 19th 3. Desert Cab Provide a credit card receipt blank with the cab number and driver name if the printer is not working.

There is no one to talk with except the message machine.
Date of Occurrence: 3/23/08
Time of Occurrence: 9:15 a.m.
Location of Occurrence: Venetian Hotel to New York New York Hotel
Comments:
We went from the Venetian Hotel in a Nellis Cab #514 at approximately 9:15am on 3/23/08 to New York New New York Hotel. Mrs. is partially disabled and had a difficult time exiting the vehicle. With our assistance, she finally got out and we tried to stop the cab from leaving because we still had to retrieve her camera in the back seat. The driver was not only rude but left even after he saw us trying to stop him. We immediately went inside to the New York Bell Desk and ask for information and called Nellis Cab to report the camera still in the back of the car. Unable to reach anything but a message machine, we left the information as to our hotel, camera description, names & room numbers. We had been informed by the hotel that the lost items had to be turned in every shift end and we could call again in the morning. Monday morning we called Nellis and talked to the dispatcher who put us on hold for over 35 minutes at which time I finally hung up. There is no one to talk with except the message machine. Because it was the Mrs 50th Wedding Anniversary and the camera had over 1000 pictures in it, J decided to stand outside in the taxi area to see if he could find Cab#514. After 5 hours, we finally spotted this guy and demanded the camera. I asked him 3 times for his name before I finally got a name of “Manny” and he said he would go get the camera and bring it back in 30 minutes but we would have to pay for a trip fee. The trip fee turned out to be $40.00 which was nothing more than extortion. Since he did not turn in the camera and it took him almost a hour to return, it makes me wonder how many other visitors never saw their possessions again and Nellis lost and found never had a record. I have been going to Vegas for 40 years and never had anything but friendly, courteous and polite cab drivers. Simply because this was the first time the Garrison’s had ever been to Vegas and would be “chopped liver” had they been there by themselves, I hope you can do something to retrieve their $40.00 and restore the excitement they had for Las Vegas until this incident. They are currently driving up Route 66 and can be reached on their cel phone or you may call or e-mail me at anytime.

Fare ended up to be $32.10. What a ripoff.
Date of Occurrence: 3/26/2008
Time of Occurrence: approx. 11:30 AM
Location of Occurrence: trip from airport to downtown
Comments:
I was “long hauled”. Before I could realize what was happening, the driver was heading down the tunnel. The ride was from the airport to the Plaza Hotel downtown. Fare ended up to be $32.10. What a ripoff. The return later that day (down Paradise road in rush hour traffic) was only a $25.80 fare. Cab company is Whittlesea Blue Cab Co. Taxi # is 5167. Driver’s name is Rosa (not sure if that was his first or last name. I was in the back seat). I asked for a receipt with his number and he gave me a receipt but sped off before I could get his number. I got the car number off the back of the vehicle. The driver got very surly when I told him what he did was illegal. He tried to speed off so that I couldn’t get the number (I believe). This guy needs to get fined.
