She is with A-Cab and her cab number was 1359

Date of Occurrence:    11/15/07

Time of Occurrence:    9: 30 AM approx

Location of Occurrence:     McCarran Airport

Comments:
I went to drop a co-worker off at the airport at the quick passenger drop off. It was extremely busy. I went to change lanes and a taxi driver would not let me in which was fine I got in behind her. I must have upset her because as we traveled through the airport she cut me off 2 more times. I dropped my passenger off first and then got into the through lane to exit the airport. It was very busy and you had to stop a lot to let passengers cross. As I went to drive again after stopping for passengers she again drove aggressively and cut in front of me. I changed lanes at that point to try and get away from her. As I got to the end of the airport where both lanes merge into one to get on the 215 she again sped up so fast, I can’t believe she did not rear end the person in front of her, to cut me off for the 3rd time. I had to slam on my brakes so I did not run into the wall. I proceeded to get my cell phone out to call her company to complain and she saw me and she sped off at probably 80 MPH to get away from me, but due to her awful driving from the beginning my passenger had written down her cab number. She is with A-Cab and her cab number was 1359. She had brown hair in pig tails and was wearing pajama bottoms. Very unkempt looking. She had an elderly couple as passengers who I just feel awful for because their ride with her could not have been a pleasant one. I did call her company to complain where I was told by her supervisor that he would talk to her. I think she should have her licensed pulled. I can’t believe someone who is supposed to be a professional driver would drive so angry and aggressively. She is going to hurt somebody. Thank you for listening

It appeared to us that he was taking us to the desert. My wife had already run out of the cab!

Date of Occurrence:    11/04/07

Time of Occurrence:    9:30PM

Location of Occurrence:     Suncoast Casino to RIO Casino

Comments:
My wife and I entered a non-descriptive taxi (we can only remember the word TAXI on the cab. The doorman at the Suncoast had told us that a cab could cost as much as $40 to go to the RIO. Because Debbie Reynolds was appearing in the showroom that night, there were not enough cabs for all the people who wanted to take a taxi. This cab pulled up on the side and we went into it without a doorman’s help. The driver who had an accent (maybe arab or spanish) was whispering into a cell phone for the entire trip. It had taken us about 10 minutes to get to the Suncoast from the strip, so I was surprised that the trip was passing 25 minutes and the meter climbed past $70. We were on a High speed Highway and moving very fast. We seemed to be west of the Strip but further west then the Hwy US15 that paralells the Strip. Plus we never passed the RIO, I became very concerned when in the distance I could see the South Point Casino that I knew was south of the strip as we were passing on the far left. I asked the driver where was he going that he passed the RIO? He said that the exit was closed and he was taken another way. We proceeded to go south and an alarming speed. My wife got upset when she saw a sign that said Los Angeles straight ahead. Being a State Investigator for 23 years, I told her to get on the cell phone and call the police. When the driver heard the word police, he made an immediate U-turn and was taking in broken english that he would shut off the meter which was at about $76. The driver took us to the RIO and I handed him $40 with a two dollar tip. He held on to the money and told me the fare was $110. I told he that I did not want to argue with him and that I felt that something was very wrong here. If he did not want to accept the $42 then we will call the police and if they say I have to pay this amount, I will. The driver would not let go of the money and told me to get out of the cab(my wife had already run out of the cab) and close the door. I let go of the money, closed the door and he sped off at a high rate of speed. We filed a report with the Casino Host at the Rio. The driver who was thin, looked arab or mexican had a taxi license number on the dashboard of his cab that read: #576 in a black marker handwritten style. My wife took his license plate number that was: 103 TYX. We feel that he was up to no good. We feared for our lives. It appeared to us that he was taking us to the desert.

The operator explained that the marathon ran today and that we needed to get to Dessert Inn road to get home.

Date of Occurrence:    12/2/2007

Time of Occurrence:    4:30 am- 5:30 am

Location of Occurrence:     Palms Hotel – 7 – Eleven (Commerce & Wyoming)

Comments:
On 12/2/2007 at 4:30am we entered a cab — Vegas – Western White MiniVan #4631, Driver Fiseha Addis – 5′8 (maybe) African Male – I believe Ethiopian descent, has a Soul Patch (small patch of hair directly under bottom lip), to take myself and a guest (milton) to the Flamingo Hotel. Upon crossing I15 we encountered a road Block denying access to the strip. The driver did not know what was causing the barricade except maybe construction. So we did a U turn and proceed to go North on I15. The driver stayed in the right lane and traveled at least 15 MPH below the speed limit. He exited on Spring Mountain (same exit as the Palace Station Hotel) and the access to the strip was also blocked. At this time, I was very worried and concern something happened on the strip and that is why the police had it shut down. Now the taxi drive had not once called into dispatch via radio or cell phone regardless of my multiple requests to call. As he proceeds back South on I15 and trying another exit, I begged him to call someone to help him get us to our hotel. His response was giving me his company card and his cell phone and telling me to call. I was unable to get through to a live person. So I used my friends cell phone, since mine was attached to my WHEELCHAIR in the back of the cab, and I called the Flamingo. The operator explained that the marathon ran today and that we needed to get to Dessert Inn road to get home. By that time, the driver had weaved his way in and out and stopped at a 7 – eleven on Wyoming and Commerce. At that point, he had racked up $30 in charges, he had previously stopped something on the meter which made the rate increase only slightly (I think in was a button relating to the Time or the mileage), and reset the meter to wipe out the charges. He got out of the cab stating he would not drive us any further because it was costing him money to keep driving and getting nowhere. Still, to this point, he had not called or spoke to anyone regarding the Strip and ACCESS to the hotels. He kicked Milton and myself out of his cab. I refused to get out until Milton brought my Wheelchair around front and I had secured an alternate ride home. The Flamingo’s bell captain/overnight manager sent one of their limos, Tim With Bell Trans, he arrived in approximately 20 minutes after the cab left us and took us straight back to our hotel. With all of this being said, my complaint boils down to a cab driver not communicating his actions, driving way below speed limits to increase fares, refusing to call dispatch for direction and assistance and worst of all kicking a fare out of the cab in the middle of downtown LAS VEGAS refusing to drive us anywhere because of his own lack of knowledge or the job and unwillingness to call dispatch.

we had left my wife’s purse inside the cab

Date of Occurrence:    Feb 16, 2008

Time of Occurrence:    1845-1900hrs

Location of Occurrence:     Harrah’s to terminal 2 Airport

Comments:
To whom it may concern: RE: Lost article February 16, 2008 @7:00pm NV time Please be advised that we were traveling in Las Vegas last week and had taken a cab from our hotel, Harrah’s, on the strip to the international terminal two. At that time, departing the taxi we had left my wife’s purse inside the cab. Noting the error, once inside the terminal- I had run outside to see if the cab was still there, he had left already. I quickly tried to call my wife’s cell to notify the taxi driver, to no avail. I had looked up the phone number of the taxi company that took us to the airport and called the taxi company and explained the situation. Unfortunately, while traveling to the airport I did not take note of the taxi driver’s number, I guessed the number to be 7583 or 7389- I did note that the cab number was 4 digits. I was advised to speak with a dispatch officer where I left my statement with item inside the purse. They were going to call back if they were able to locate the missing item. In the meantime, I continually called the cell phone hoping that the driver would hear the cell phone located on the seat behind him. In all I contacted the telephone 71 times, at 60th try someone had shut off the cell phone- the calls now went to voicemail, I had called back the dispatcher at taxi company and advised her of some more details that my wife and I were able to come up with as well that the cell phone had been shut off. She (Karen) – the dispatch agent had indicated that she has not heard anything yet, and will call. I had asked if there were any procedures that the cab driver must follow if an item was ever left in the cab. I also asked if I could get a ticket or incident number from her so I could track any changes with my case. I was told there was none, it was all done manually. I later found out that there are procedures that the cab driver must follow and contacted the lost and found department with that cab company. I had spoke with Lupe from the lost and found advised her of the lost article and its contents. I later contacted her back and she had not found anything that was returned by a driver matching our contents. I am concerned with the consistency that I have received from this dispatch company, it seemed every time that I contacted the company, I never received a direct answer that any protocols were in place if any items were lost, I know we are not the first people to lose anything with a cab company. I was not satisfied with the results that we received with the dispatch company and the differing comments each time I called. It took me multiple phone calls to find out that there is a lost and found department with in the cab company that I called. Once I found this out, I was able to speak with Lupe, who today was looking after this department, she as helpful as she could be since she did not have in her possession our lost article. We were able to gain the following information from the cab driver, he had just started at 5pm, and we were picked up at 6:45, dropped off at approximately 7:00pm. He may have been of a Caribbean decent. The driver was male approximately 30-45 years of age. The taxi was a minivan made by Chrysler with a tan interior. My initial call was at 7:08pm, to my wife’s cell. We were able to find out that the cab was either white with a red top or white with a black markings, both operated by the same company. Either Union or ACE, and I am within a 60% confidence level that the cab numbers were 75xx. I was hoping that the dispatch was able to keep a roster of their pick up’s and drop off’s. With a little work on there part with the info that we gave them they would have been able to come up with the cab ID. Not to mention the driver should have heard the multiple connection attempts I was trying to make by calling her cell phone. Here is what we have for contents inside the purse: Purse was a small knitted purse 6”x 8” with a long strap (black in color)

I thought it seemed like a lot of money and strange route

Date of Occurrence:    March 17, 2008

Time of Occurrence:    approximatelyy 9:40 p.m.

Location of Occurrence:     Between Airport and Orleans Hotel

Comments:
…Driver’s name Ted C Millar cell phone number 818-730-6047. DESERT CAB (702)386-9102 cab# 4418 voucher # 1531 Mr Millar ( assuming this is his correct name) picked me up at the Internatinal Terminal at McCarran airport and took me to the Orleans Hotel. The fare was $29.00. I thought it seemed like a lot of money and strange route that we took but I had only been to Las Vegas once before, so what did I know. I now find out that the cost should have been about $14 and this type of rip off is fairly common…. The name is one he gave me written on a fare receipt card in case I wanted to have some “good clean fun” while I was in town. I can send a copy of the card if you wish.. It shows DESERT CAB (702)386-9102 across the top. The electronic credit card swipe machine receipt shows cab# 4418 voucher # 1531…..

I had the distinct impression we were driving in a lot of circles!

Date of Occurrence:    3/29/08

Time of Occurrence:    prox 7:30 to 8:00 pm

Location of Occurrence:     Flamingo Hotel to Galeria Drive

Comments:
I was staying at the Flamingo hotel, and needed transport from there to an off strip address. I caught the taxi (Ace Cab, driver # 6823) at the hotel, and gave the driver my destination address. He said he did not know the location, or how to get to it. I offered to navigate if he had a map, but he had none (absent use of a map, I also had no idea how to get there). He called someone on his telephone, and proceeded to drive. I do not know Las Vegas, but I had the distinct impression we were driving in a lot of circles. After a lot of driving, I managed to speak (using my cell phone) with a party at the address in question. Based on me telling them where we were, they conveyed instructions to me, which I then dictated to the driver. By this means, finally, we reached the destination. By this time, the fare had reached just under $45. Prior to the trip, I’d used MapPoint (a Microsoft map and routing program) to determine the distance between the two locations (I was anxious to assess if the trip would be affordable). According to MapPoint, the driving distance should be 9.9 miles. According to rates as published on your website (and assuming that I’m calculating correctly), a 9.9 mile trip should run $25.08. When the driver demanded almost twice that, I explained that I thought it unfair, and that I should not be forced to pay for his wandering. When you get in a taxi, you assume the driver will know his way (or at least have a map), and that you’ll not have to pay for his going in circles. Regardless, the driver demanded full payment, and I didn’t seem to have any real choice but to give it to him, which I did (I gave him $45 total, with no intent to tip). I did not manage to get the driver’s name. I asked him for it several times, to no avail. He appeared to be Asian or middle eastern, and did not speak English well. I pulled the driver’s number from the placard on the vehicle’s dashboard. It was a four door sedan type of vehicle. If possible, I’d like to be refunded the difference between what I was forced to pay, and what the trip should have cost.
